Principal's Message

December 1 , 2017

Hello Lion Parents,

As we wind down this month of the calendar year and the last month of the first semester, let’s take a moment to reflect on the truly great year we are having so far. Waco High School is experiencing unprecedented parent involvement, student spirit and academic achievement. Our students are busily finishing up their studies for the first half of the year and we can smile with pride at their accomplishments!

Winter Break will be from December 18 – January 3. School will resume on Thursday January 4. Happy Holidays to all of our Waco High families. Take this opportunity during the holiday season and throughout the year to love and enjoy time with each other, appreciate each other, and support one another in all aspects of your life.

Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!

Welcome to the Fall season!

We are well on our way through the first semester and as Thanksgiving Break approaches, we have much to be thankful for. We are lucky to have support from parents, the community and the district as well. This support can be seen in the great parenting our students receive, the community members that devote their time to mentoring our LEAD Students and the funding the district provides for many of our parent engagement events.

We are thankful for the support from parents to ensure our students are here every day and on time. High attendance gives students a greater chance of being academically successful, as well as giving our school better funding opportunities so that we can provide your child better services and programs.

I look forward to seeing you on November 7 for our We Are Family event in the cafeteria at 6:00 pm. This will be a time to come together, enjoy a good meal and empower families in our community.

Hello Lion Parents,

We have had an outstanding beginning of the school year. We currently have 315 students enrolled in Dual-Credit classes through McLennan Community College, as well as a new Education Pathway for students interested in becoming teachers. In our Career and Technology Department, we have new classes offered such as Fashion and Marketing, Correctional Services and Social Media Marketing.

As we end the first grading period, it is very important that you check with your child and work with them on their grades and attendance. Attending school every day helps students get the education they need. Staying connected with teachers and being involved in your child’s education is a crucial part of their success. Please ensure this partnership by getting logged onto Parent Portal, joining PTSA, attending CDMC Meetings, our upcoming College Nights and student performances both on the stage and on the field.

I look forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming AVID Parent Night on October 18 and our Parent Engagement Night on November 7. With your involvement, Waco High School continues to advance and bring pride to our community.

Waco High Lions reflect on our accomplishments with “pride”.

Academic excellence is recognized at WHS and proudly congratulate our Dell Scholar and Terry Scholar.

Our very own Mr. Ken Heller is a finalist for WISD Outstanding Teacher of the year!

Sweet music is playing as 30 students in band advance to TSSEC and Orchestra earns Division 1 ratings on Concert and Sight Reading.  We danced the night away at the JROTC military ball and tradition was renewed with the return of the “Sadie Hawkins” dance.

Performance is our “forte” as theatre is nominated for various awards at DSM. Choir returned with Sweepstakes and a Superior rating, and Mock trials advanced to state.

Our chest swells with “pride” as the 1st female golfer advances to regionals and the soccer team scores a GOAL as they advanced to regionals.

The Commissioner of Texas Workforce awards the automotive program with a $220, 000.00 JET grant.

Waco High School, where Traditions, Excellence and “Pride” run deep!

Love

This is the month of LOVE with Valentine's Day.

"Trying to write about love is ultimately like trying to have a dictionary represent life.  No matter how many words there are, there will never be enough."

David Levithan
"The Lover's Dictionary"

We recognize that it "takes a village" to educate and prepare our students for today's society.

We appreciate our parents, community/business partners, teachers, coaches, faculty, counselors, and staff for all their hard work, dedication and compassion to our students.

Without LOVE, it could not be done.

It has been an exciting start for Waco High School!

From Dual-Credit classes to Career and Technology (CTE) to Athletics and to Fine Arts, we have had an outstanding beginning of the school year.
We currently have 220 students enrolled in a Dual-Credit class through MCC. This is a great result of the passing of the TRE last year.  We also had a Ribbon Cutting event for the opening of the "Lions' Hub" our school store. We have new CTE classes offered such as Engineering, Criminal Justice and have expanded our Automotive program.

Waco High Athletics and the Fine Arts Department continue to grow and excel.  WHS students stay very active in everything, from Friday night football games to Cross-Country meets to our musical "The Little Mermaid" and to band contests.

We continue to advance and make Waco High Proud.

2015 started off with a successful bang!

Waco High has committed themselves to implementing the Restorative Justice discipline approach. We have two Restorative Justice Coordinators (RDC), one Behavioral Interventionist and six Behavioral Aides. Our discipline numbers have tremendously decreased from last year.  Students are taking more of a responsible approach to negative behavior. They are also learning how to be pro-active in the behavioral choices they make.

Now since the TRE has passed our students will have additional opportunities to enroll in dual-credit classes to receive high school and college credit. More students are taking advantage of the dual-credit classes.

The Waco High Fine Arts Department continues to excel.  From art shows to band competition to choir competition to musicals.

Waco High is on the rise.

An amazing 2014 – 2015 school year

Waco High has had an amazing 2014 – 2015 school year thanks to the hard work and dedication of the staff, students, parents and community members. We are now entering the EOC and AP testing period with the focus not only on student success, but also on student progress. There has been a solid turnout at Saturday school with attendance averaging over 100 students. We have a mixture of students who are attending: EOC re testers, ATLAS/PREAP and AP tutorials, and students completing their requirements for graduation. I appreciate the time that the Waco High staff continues to pour into our united goal of Bringing the Pride Back to Waco High.

We began the school year with the discussion of “PRIDE.” Pride overflows in our hallways, classrooms, departments, clubs and in the cafeteria staff, teachers, support staff and the administrative team. The students have PRIDE in not only being a Lion but representing Waco High well.

Anything other than excellent is no longer good enough as the year progresses. The list of the wonderful things that have taken place continues to grow, and I could not be more proud of what we have accomplished together as a team.

Waco High Graduation for the class of 2015 will be Saturday, June 6th, 2015 at 2 pm at the Ferrell Center.

July 7, 2014

Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year!

We are happy to have your children at Waco High School this year.

My name is Ed Love and I have worked for Waco Independent School District for the past thirty-two  years. Twenty-three of those years I spent at Waco High School before becoming principal  at  G.L. Wiley Opportunity Center  for three years and  principal at G. W. Carver Middle School for one year. I have thoroughly enjoyed my years as principal of Wiley and Carver however; I am enthusiastic about the idea of serving the much larger student body and staff of Waco High School.

During the twenty-three years I was at Waco High School, I was a teacher, coach, and administrator. Throughout those twenty-three years, I developed a solid relationship with the student body, faculty, staff, and community.

I have a commitment to all students of WISD and a special loyalty to Waco High School. I am eager to bring back the “Lion Pride” to Waco High School.

I look forward to being principal of Waco High School!
